What can I expect during my first Physical Therapy visit?

  • You'll arrive and handle any intake forms sent to you online before starting. This may require additional signatures from the forms sent to you.

  • Please bring your referral script (if applicable).

  • The evaluation will then start which will include:

    • A history and cause of your injury

    • Past medical history which may include medication, tests and procedures related to your health and current condition.

    • Asking about your goals to help us develop a plan to achieve them

    • The physical therapist will then perform different tests that range from palpation, strength and active movement, special tests, range of motion and functional assessment.

    • The physical therapist will then review the results and discuss their objective findings for you to further understand the "why" behind your pain. They will then develop a comprehensive exercise program for you to perform at home and develop a plan of care for coming into physical therapy for treatment.

    • Treatment will be performed on the first visit.

How should I dress for Physical Therapy?

Since we will be asking you to perform different functional movements, it is recommended that you wear comfortable clothing, preferably athletic wear, so that you're able to easily move during the examination.

Can I choose which Physical Therapy clinic I want to go to?

You have the right to choose whichever clinic you want to go to, regardless of what a referral script from a healthcare provider states. The only exception is if you hold a HMO policy for BCBS. An HMO policy will require more hurdles to be seen at our facility but we're more than happy to assist with this process. We can answer any specific or detailed questions pertaining to this question more by giving us a call.

How long does a typical physical therapy session last?
